Change phone number
Your phone number is the primary way we verify it is really you when you sign in with SMS. Why Knot Me does not let you swap one phone number for another on an existing profile the way you might update an email field — this protects your matches, messages, and reservations from takeover.
How phone login works
- When you sign up, the mobile number you verify becomes tied to your Why Knot Me account.
- That number is used for sign-in codes and important account notices.
- Sparks, Soft Night reservations, and venue history stay on the account created with that number.
If you still have access to the app
Add a backup sign-in method first. Before your old number stops working, open the app and connect any options you see under account or security settings — for example Apple, Google, or email — so you are not locked to SMS alone.
Planning a new number? Finish linking a backup method, then contact us if you need the account moved. We may ask you to verify identity before any change.
You cannot type a new phone number into Settings to replace the old one on the same profile. That is intentional — the same policy many dating apps use to prevent account hijacking.
If you already have your new number but no backup login
Email support@whyknot.me from the email address on your profile (if you added one), or use the in-app contact form. Include:
- Your previous phone number (country code + number)
- Your new phone number
- Your city and approximate sign-up date
- A recent profile detail we can match (first name, a venue you saved, etc.)
Our team will verify ownership before updating access or guiding you through recovery. Response times vary; safety and fraud checks come first.
If you lost access to your old number and cannot log in
Choose the path that fits your situation:
- Backup sign-in works: Use Apple, Google, or email on the login screen instead of SMS.
- No backup and you cannot receive codes: Email support@whyknot.me with the details above. We may ask for additional verification or offer account deletion if recovery is not possible.
- Starting fresh: You may delete the old account (if you can still reach it) and create a new account with your new number. You will not keep prior matches, chats, or history — see Delete Account.
Business or venue accounts
Partners signing in through the business portal should use support@whyknot.me or your account manager contact. Do not create a duplicate venue listing under a new personal number.
