Why Knot Me AI & Recommendation Disclosure
This page explains how Why Knot Me uses automated systems for personalized recommendations and, where available, optional AI-assisted features. For data collection and your privacy choices, see the Privacy Policy. To delete your account and associated personalization data, see Delete Account.
1. Two kinds of automated features
Activity-based personalization (core product): Why Knot Me uses information about how you use the app to personalize people, venues, events, and plans shown to you. This is part of the standard service — not a separate add-on.
Optional AI-assisted features (if available): Some features may use third-party AI tools to help with tasks such as drafting messages, suggesting plans, or reviewing content for safety. These are described below only when they are offered in your version of the app.
2. Activity-based personalization
What it does
We use your in-app activity — such as profiles and places you view, searches you run, Sparks and invitations, reservations, and content you save or spend time on — together with your stated preferences, to suggest people, venues, events, and plans that may fit you better.
Where it runs
Personalization runs to improve Why Knot Me for you. It is built into discovery, matchmaking, venue browsing, and related features.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information for third-party advertising
- We do not use your activity for cross-app tracking or ad targeting on other companies' apps or websites
- We do not publish proprietary ranking methods or internal scoring systems
Incognito browsing
If you turn on Incognito browsing in the app (Settings → Privacy), we pause activity-based personalization and related presence signals while Incognito is on. Previously collected activity may remain stored until you delete your account or submit a deletion request, but it is not used for personalization while Incognito is active.
Automated processing
Some recommendations are generated using automated processing (including profiling). They affect what you see in the app (for example, suggested people, venues, or plans). They do not produce legal effects outside the app.
Not a guarantee
Recommendations are informational only. Why Knot Me does not guarantee compatibility, attraction, relationship outcomes, venue quality, reservation success, or event attendance.
3. Optional AI-assisted features
Depending on your app version and settings, Why Knot Me may offer features that send limited data to service providers to generate suggestions or assist with moderation. When those features are enabled:
- Purpose: To help you compose messages, explore plans, or keep the community safer
- Data sent: Only the text or content needed for that feature (for example, a draft message or reported content), not your full activity history for personalization
- Retention: Governed by our Privacy Policy and the provider's terms
- Your choices: You may be able to avoid optional AI features by not using them; core personalization still applies unless Incognito is on
Core activity-based personalization is processed to provide the service. Optional AI features, when available, are described in-app and may use separate providers as noted in our Privacy Policy.
4. Safety and moderation
We may use automated tools together with human review to help detect spam, fraud, harassment, and policy violations. Moderation may analyze content you submit or report, messages, and related account activity.
5. Transparency and your rights
We do not publish proprietary ranking formulas or internal scoring systems.
You may request information about automated processing that significantly affects you by contacting privacy@whyknot.me.
Your choices include Incognito browsing (pauses personalization), account deletion, and privacy requests described in the Privacy Policy.
6. Changes
We may update this disclosure as features evolve. Continued use of Why Knot Me after updates constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
